Open Deck Supervisor | Marella Cruises

The Open Deck Supervisor is a key member of the Marella Cruise Entertainment Team, dedicated to providing a safe, orderly, and enjoyable poolside experience for all guests. This role is pivotal in managing the sunbed reservation system and ensuring the adherence to poolside regulations, particularly children while using the swimming pool / jacuzzi facilities onboard.

Reporting to the M Club Manager, this role involves actively monitoring pool areas, enforcing pool rules and
regulations, and providing a safe and enjoyable environment for families and children.

Key Responsibilities:

Safety and Supervision
– Maintain constant vigilance and supervision of the pool areas, ensuring the safety of all guests, with a
particular focus on children.
– Enforce pool rules and regulations, such as no running, no diving, and the wearing of appropriate swimwear.
– Respond promptly and appropriately to any incidents or emergencies that may occur in the pool area.
– Ensure that all pool equipment, such as life jackets and flotation devices, are in good working condition and
readily available.
– Monitor ‘Adult Only Areas’ ensuring these are occupied by guests aged 18 and over.
– Supervise poolside areas, monitoring children’s behaviour and ensuring children under 13 are not in hot tubs.
Guest Experience
– Greet guests warmly and provide a welcoming atmosphere in the pool area.
– Assist guests with any questions or concerns they may have regarding the pool facilities.
– Organize and lead additional age-appropriate activities and games for children, ensuring their enjoyment and
engagement.
– Perform checks during specified times tagging unoccupied sunbeds with towels and remove tags and towels
if unused on the second check in line with Marella Cruises MQM.
– Any reasonable related duty as assigned by the Cruise Director and/or Hotel Director.

Compliance and Reporting
– Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations, policies, and procedures related to pool operations.
– Conduct regular inspections of the pool area, identifying and reporting any potential hazards or maintenance
issues.
– Maintain accurate records and logs of incidents, accidents, and any other relevant information.
– Attend and participate in regular training sessions and meetings to stay updated on safety protocols and best
practices.

Qualifications and Requirements:
– Relevant certification in lifeguarding, water safety, and first aid (e.g., CPR, AED) is desirable.
– Experience in supervising and managing pool areas, preferably in a hospitality or recreational setting
– Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with guests of all ages
– Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities, particularly in emergency situations
– Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure
– Proficiency in English (both written and spoken)
– Clean DBS background check

Working Conditions:
 Rotating shifts, together with M Club High Season hosts to ensure continuous pool supervision, during
designated patrol periods (as per daily rota provided by M Club Manager)
– Prolonged standing and walking in an outdoor environment
– Exposure to various weather conditions, including heat, humidity, and direct sunlight
