Entertainment Technician | Marella Cruises

Reporting to the Entertainment Technical Manager, the Entertainment Technician will support the Entertainment Technical team in delivering the technical needs of the entertainment programme on board tothe highest industry standards.

Led by the Entertainment Technical Manager, the Entertainment Technical team consists of 3 Senior Technicians (Sound and Lighting Engineers and Stage Manager), a Broadcast Manager and 5 Entertainment Technicians. The Entertainment Technical team is part of the Entertainment department onboard, which also includes of a team of Entertainment Hosts, Production Cast Members, a Children’s Host Team, as well as a Musical Director and team of Resident Musicians. The Entertainment department is directed and coordinated by the Cruise Director.

As a member of the Entertainment Technical team, you will be setting up live bands, musicians and technical equipment all around the different venues on the ship. Depending on the vessel, you may be allocated to operate the sound and lighting equipment in one specific venue, or work ship-wide throughout multiple different venues and lounges.

You will also assist with the running of the production shows in the main theatre. The Entertainment Technician may also be assigned to work backstage in the theatre, assisting the Stage Manager by taking an active part in the production of RWS Global’s West-End style shows. You will be assisting daily with the delivery of the production shows in the main theatre by building and striking stage scenery before and after the show and on certain vessels you may also be required to operate Follow Spot for the production shows.

As a member of the Entertainment Department, a position of responsibility will be held with regards to emergency procedures, guest mustering and drills; specific training will be received regarding this, both prior to joining and regularly on board by Marella Cruises.

You are an ambassador of RWS Global and Marella Cruises and must act safely, responsibly and professionally during your time onboard.

Responsibilities

• To deliver the technical requirements entertainment product to an exceptionally high standard.

• To set-up sound and lighting systems as directed while coordinating with other team members to ensure a complete and seamless production of the events on board.

• To set-up and maintain the stage scenery, equipment and props requirements of all performances as directed.

• To create and enhance the guest experience on board making sure all events are delivered at the highest technical standard possible.

• To ensure events in the ship’s venues start on time and all technical requirements from the Musicians, Performers and Entertainment Hosts are met.

• To follow the Entertainment Technical Manager’s instructions and work schedules and ensure all work is carried out safely, efficiently and in accordance with all current safety and company regulations.

• To complete accurate maintenance and equipment records and comply with the cleaning and maintenance schedule for the department.

• To assist with the technical maintenance, repair and upkeep of all equipment onboard as directed by the Entertainment Technical Manager.

• To ensure both technical standards and your professional behavior is at the highest level whilst onboard and representing RWS Global and Marella Cruises.

• To ensure your appearance and grooming guidelines are maintained at all times.

• To uphold the standards set out in your training.

• A position of onboard responsibility will be held with regards to emergency procedures, guest mustering and drills (full training received on board).

Experience & skillset

The Entertainment Technician should have at least 2 years of relevant industry qualifications in sound, lighting, stage management or equivalent/ relevant work experience.

Operational and set-up knowledge of Audio Visual equipment is mandatory. Experience of working in the cruise industry and/ or live performance venues on a variety of entertainment programmes i.e. concert, theatre, comedy is desirable.

Previous sea-going experience in a similar role is desirable.

The Entertainment Technician must have good knowledge of Health & Safety procedures within the production environment.

Other requirements 

Must hold valid STCW training certificates prior to joining the ship.

Must hold a valid Seamans Book/ ID card or have completed an application for this.

Must hold a full, valid passport, with at least 9 months validity at time of joining.

Must hold a valid ENG1 or equivalent Medical Certificate.
